This oil painting is setting at both the painter’s hometown in China and the town she is living now in Ireland. In an old oriental decorated room with wooden panel window shelf, curtain is scrolled up. A Chinese Opera performer is applying makeup for her later show on stage. Outside the window there are bamboo, peony, and basho plants surrounded around a artistic rock. The light beam of twilight shining from the upper back of the painting showing the Boyne Viaduct bridge with bright and contrasted colors. A ghostly figure isĀ gazing at the performer.
Painter brings together her experience of growing up and living in China and her present experience living in Ireland, integrating her sense of cultural heritage and her perspective as an outsider in another country.
